O'Sullivan Farms in Charles Town, WV is a large, full service thoroughbred breeding operation that foals anywhere between 60-100 mares every year. We are seeking to hire an energetic, enthusiastic, and dedicated night watchmen for our upcoming 2021 foaling season.
This night watch position must work seven days a week, from mid-January until late May/early June, and the shift is from 11:45PM to 7AM (we also have an evening watch from 6pm to midnight). Competitive wages are based upon experience.
Duties for this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Routinely checking pregnant mares for signs of foaling
  • Checking on other mares and foals closely
  • Medicine administration throughout shift, as necessary
  • Checking hay/water and replenishing as needed
  • Morning feeding for 3 barns
  • Keeping barns clean and tidy
  • Grooming horses
  • Interact with foals, get them used to humans
  • Morning turnout
  • Thorough communication about all events with evening shift when first arriving and with day shift in the morning
    An ideal candidate should:
  • Be comfortable handling horses alone (especially mares and foals)
  • Have experience with horses
  • Have a good eye and pay close attention to details
  • Have very strong communication skills and be a team player
  • Be physically able to be on your feet for almost your whole shift, and be able to lift at least 100 lbs
  • Be very open to learning along the way
